Coating Defects Caused by Coating Blades

Uneven Coating

Uneven blade pressure, poor fluidity of coating liquid, severe blade wear and other factors prevent the coating liquid from being evenly distributed on the substrate, resulting in inconsistent coating thickness.

Scratches

Foreign matter on the blade edge, impurities in the coating liquid, blade wear or mismatched hardness will cause slender scratches on the coating surface and damage the integrity of the coating layer.

Missing Coating

Improper blade setting, insufficient supply of coating liquid and poor contact between the blade and the plate surface lead to uncovered blank areas on the substrate.

Blade Marks

Excessively high blade hardness, excessive gap between the blade and the plate surface, as well as serious blade wear will leave obvious marks on the coating surface and impair coating flatness.

Coating Abnormalities

Impurities introduced during doctoring, improper coating liquid formula and incompatibility between the blade and coating materials may trigger abnormal problems such as cracking, discoloration and oxidation of the coating.
